A lot of people ask how Mosu came to be, and with our first anniversary just around the corner, it feels like the perfect moment to reflect on how far we’ve come.
Mosu was borne out of a conversation between us, Jenna, an experienced hair stylist and barber, and Alicia, a designer specialising in brand creation and development. We both felt that, while Worcester has a lot of options for hair stylists, something was missing: a truly gender-neutral space with a focus on sustainability, where men could receive the same level of care and service often reserved for women, alongside services tailored specifically to them.
Back in 2021, we began exploring what creating that kind of space might look like. We had a location in mind from the very beginning: Arch 54, a disused bike repair shop under the railway in Worcester. We made enquiries, and that set everything in motion. Taking on and renovating a live railway arch came with countless logistical and regulatory challenges, and it took almost two years before we were finally able to open our doors.
We didn’t want to create just another salon, we wanted to build a thoughtful, calming experience. A space where people could truly relax, feel at home, and know that every element had been considered through a sustainable lens.
It wasn’t easy. There were setbacks, delays, and more than a few moments of “what have we done?” But with blood, sweat, and a couple of tears, the arch slowly became the space we’d envisioned. When we look back at the ‘before’ photos now, it’s surreal. When we read the feedback from our clients, we feel incredibly proud and grateful.
We’d also like to thank the people who supported us through the build, especially Alicia’s parents, Tom and Kate, whose help and encouragement meant the world during those tougher moments.
And to Georgie, thank you for joining our team and embracing the Mosu ethos so wholeheartedly. Your energy, creativity, and belief in what we’re building have meant more than we can say.
